Welcome! I would love to share more about myself with you. As a therapist and as an individual, I am passionate about embracing the paradox of accepting ourselves as we are right now, while also committing to change. I believe this is the essence of therapy that leads you towards the fulfilling and joyful life you deserve to be living.
-Arielle

What is my approach to counseling?

When I sit with you, I offer my unconditional acceptance, my calm presence, my sense of humor, and concrete tools that are easy to use and effective. My desire is to cultivate a genuine and compassionate relationship in which we can collaboratively work together towards health and happiness.

Our worlds and lives are shaped by experiences, whether traumatic or positive, from our childhood, important life events, relationships with family, friends, partners, colleagues, and perhaps most significantly, our relationship with ourself. Our work will provide an opportunity to illuminate the resilience built by these experiences, while creating change in areas where they are holding you back. I can help you understand old maladaptive patterns and create productive and positive ways of connecting in the world.

I am not what has happened to me. I am what I chose to become.
-Carl Jung

What issues do I specialize in?

My experience, education, and training as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker provides me with the tools to work with diverse populations and mental health issues. Issues that I specialize in are trauma (PTSD), mental health issues (coping with depression/anxiety/low self-esteem), life transitions/adjustments, and relationships (boundary setting, healthy communication).

I have multiple trainings in different ways to address trauma. I often use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is a powerful kind of psychotherapy that helps clients see disturbing material in a new and less distressing way. It is a physiologically based technique that stimulates the brain to process information more adaptively. EMDR is been shown through extensive research to alleviate symptoms for a variety of issues, such as PTSD, complicated grief, childhood abuse, and stress reduction. I have also had training in and use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness to reduce the effect of trauma on my clients. I focus my work on older adolescents and adults. I respect everyone's spiritual, ethnic and cultural framework, sexual orientation, timing and boundaries; all are resources in therapy.

Nothing ever goes away until it teaches us what we need to know.
-Pema Chodron
